About Us
Like most Christians, Seventh-day Adventists believe that this world is no evolutionary accident. We believe that God in Christ created this world and the entire universe. "In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God and He was God. He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that he didn't make(John 1:1-3 NLT). We know this Word was Christ because the Word became human and dwelt among us.(John 1:14) We accept the scriptures as God's love letter to us. His Word is our supreme authority. Like many today, Adventists believe in the working of the Spirit and spiritual gifts, including the prophetic gift. However, all gifts of the Spirit must be submissive to the original canon of scripture. Through it, under the guidance of the Spirit, we learn to know God and His will for us. To know the Spirit of the Word is more important than knowing the letter. To know the Father and His Son Jesus Christ is to have eternal life. In Christ we experience grace, forgiveness and everlasting life, here and now. The Spirit is our guarantee that we will receive our final inheritance and glorified bodies when Christ comes. The name Seventh-day Adventist notes two unique teachings of the church. We believe in a literal, personal, glorious second, "Advent" of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This "Advent" concept is highlighted in the name Adventist. When Jesus Christ returns, the dead who are in Christ will be resurrected and the living will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. This is no secret event, for it is the climax of this earth's history. His glorious return is called the "blessed hope" and is the theme of more than 2500 verses of scripture. Because Adventists believe that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day...thereby blessing the seventh day and making it holy, we see significant importance in honoring God by keeping the Sabbath holy. Michael Card, a contemporary Christian artist, has embodied the beauty of this sanctuary in time in his song "Creations Seventh Sunrise". The Sabbath symbolizes our need to rest in Christ for our physical rest as well as our spiritual well being. Adventists do not believe that keeping the Sabbath makes them holier or better than any other Christians. Obedience to God and glory to Him can only come from one who has experienced salvation by grace. We see in these end times the importance of loyalty to the Creator...to Christ, who is Lord of the Sabbath. That loyalty is revealed in the patience of the saints, their faith in Christ and their obedience to His commands. (Revelation 14:12) |
